Week Three Reflection//Notes – Kelsey Dean
Over our third class, we had a special guest speaker – Jesse Miller
Reflection:
I think out of all the things discussed in class today during our guest speaker presentation, the thing that stuck with me is how we interact with students professionally online and through social media. A point was made about allowing students or those we teach, how its okay for them to follow us when it is a teaching account or even personal, but then we are faced with being personally connected to all their accounts too; which then becomes a privacy issue for the students. I never had thought about this before, it makes me think of teachers I have seen use their social media platform for their education, but I never thought about how they then have access to all our accounts as well. Whether you are following them back or not, students may not understand the cyber security//safety aspect of it all, which allows for an opportunity for a discussion to be had in class about consent, safety, etc.
