This week I recorded each piece of the song that I selected to learn first – Tiny Dancer by Elton John. I found that I was really struggling to play the song according to the sheet music. I find that when I play instruments, I can often play by ear and how it sounds – rather than always playing from the sheet music. I find that by practising this, I am able to hear the chords more clearly when I go to play another song. Personally I found that this was challenging because of sheet music not sounding right; it was frustrating because I wanted to perfect it by the time I had recorded the video demonstration, but I know now that I will set more time aside for the next piece so that I don’t find myself stuck at the last minute trying to find the one key that sounds right. I am being to become more comfortable playing the piano and the way my hands are placed on the keys is becoming more natural for myself.
